When my husband and I started looking for a pre-school for our oldest daughter, we immediately thought of Little Tot. We are both from this area and were familiar with the school. However, we did not know that the school was under new management. Once we entered our daughter in the program we were so impressed! The staff, classroom environment, and what our daughter was being taught was so beyond our expectations. Mrs. Borrero (and her staff) take the time to know each student individually. From personal preferences (child's favorite color, food, etc..) to each child's learning style and level. Mrs. Borrero's staff is kind, gentle, and very understanding of all the children enrolled. The school is a true gem and we feel the best pre-school program the area has to offer.

Please send a full change of clothes in your child's back pack each day, just in case of a little oooppssy!!! Little Tot Nusery School is not responisble for lost or damaged clothing. Please LABEL EVERYTHING!
Our Curriculum:
Our three year old curriculum focuses on socialization. For most children this is their first time away from home and their first time with a group of peers. They will learn to work together, share, use their manners, and explore their environment. They will also learn their ABC's, colors, shapes, numbers 1-50, art, gross motor skills, fine motor development, language and much more!
Our four year old program includes all of the above, as well as science, simple math, phonics, numbers 1-100, handwriting, calendar, Spanish, projects, art, music, dance, and many movement activities!
Our three and four year old combined program includes all of the above. This program is recommended for children who required a little more structure, consistency and CHALLENGE!
At Little Tot Nursery School your child will learn by doing. Here 90% of the activities are done hands on by the children. Circle time includes listening activities (when the teacher is reading or speaking to the children) and physical activities, where the children act out a story or song. The children also have certain responsibilities, such as clean up, putting their belongings in their back pack and serving their own snack. All of this takes time to learn, but by mid year...they are experts!
Our day has a certain structure, but I am very flexible and tailor to the individual needs of my students.
Here is the order in which our program flows:
The time frame depends on the group of children, meaning that more time or less time may be needed for each activity depending on the needs of the children.
8:30am - 9:50am /12:00 noon - 1:25 pm - Center Time
When the children arrive they go to the "Planning Board" and choose the first center they wish to play in. These centers include:
The Block Center, Writing Center, Dramatic Play Center, Book Corner, Computer Center, Puzzles and Table Toys, Store, Wood Working, Sensory Tables (wet or dry), Painting Easel, Science Center, Snack Center.
After they are done playing in their first center of choice they are free to play in any area they wish. The purpose of the "Planning Board" is to prevent too many children from picking the same center at the same time. The "Planning Board" will be posted daily on the front door, so that you may see what center your child chose first (you can then ask your child questions about what they did in that area of the classroom!)
During center time your child will play and explore in the above areas as well as participate in daily art lessons. During art your child will be learning important fine motor skills, pre-writing skills, scissor skills, glue skills, following directions, creativity and much more!
During this time frame the Snack Center is also open. The children can go to the snack center when they feel hungry and eat. The Snack Center consists of a small round table with 2 chairs (4 chairs can be added if needed). Here the children will learn to set the table (place mat, cup, napkin). They will learn to use utensils to serve their food and how to pour juice out of a small pitcher. They will also learn to read the sign "Did you wash your hands?" After they eat, they will learn to place their trash in the waste basket. The Snack Center is monitored so do not fear...your child WILL eat and WILL learn how to use this area independently by mid-year!
In addition to the above activities your child will participate in learning games, group projects, and teacher directed activities. Our 4 year olds will also do their Handwriting without Tears Workbooks and connecting activities during this time.
9:50 am - 10:00am / 1:25 pm - 1:35 pm - Clean Up Time
The bell rings, clean up music is turned on , and the children begin to put all the toys back where they belong.
10:00 am - 10:30 am / 1:35 pm - 2:00 pm - Circle Time
During Circle Time our younger students work on social skills, finger plays, gross motor skills, counting, shape, letter , and number recognition. We also talk about monthly themes, up coming events, listen to stories and sing songs. The older children work on the above skills as well as, calendar, weather, phonics, math skills, projects, Spanish and much more.
10:30 am - 11:00 am / 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm - Playground Time
Weather permitting. If we are unable to go outside we will have a second circle time, Yoga, Story or Free Play.
